Hello Veloway

Today we, the wife and I, finally had all the necessary tools (bikes, hitch-mounted bike rack, trailer hitch to hold the bike rack, extender for the bike rack so the rear-mounted spare tire didn’t interfere…) to visit Austin‘s Veloway! We have heard and read about it for almost 3 years now (have we lived here that long already!?) and today we made it happen.

I have to say the reviews of this bike only park/path were on target. It is very nice.

Step one was attaching the extender to the hitch mount, the rack to the extender, the bikes to the rack, and then heading out! (Also steps 1a, 1b, 1c, & 1d)

Nice to know the Jeep with bikes attached will still fit in the garage in case we want to be all set to go for an early morning ride. That is one way to beat the Texas heat.

We live just a few short miles from the Veloway. So, after a quick trip we unloaded the bikes and were ready to go.

The three mile loop was more varied than we anticipated (a few ups and downs) and the wildflowers were way prettier than we expected for the first week of June.

There was at least one sign that made us do a double take.

A few stretches of the path were shaded, which was helpful, but always remember to hydrate during Texas summers. By the way, June 4 is summer in Texas! After a leisurely six mile ride, we packed it in and headed home. We are both very excited to have such a wonderful facility so close to us. We are looking forward to utilizing it as much as we can.

See you soon Veloway!
